Narrative text is a kind of text , which is telling or describing an activity or events. The story can be used as an educating media , fleet to the author experiences , and to develop to readers imaginations

~ Social function/purpose of the text

The basic purpose of the narrative text are to entertain or amuse and to get the readers attentions about the story.

~ Generic structures:

# Orientation

Narrative text is usually began with orientation . in this stage the readers are introduce to the characters and setting of the story . orientation chapter the condition that the reader can keep on following the story .

# Complication

A crisis usually a risen in complication . in the middle of the story . it present what is so called complication when the characters find a problem . there is a conflict or problem among the characters of the story in this part .

# Resolution

Resolutions  is the stage where the main characters finds solution from her/his problem . the story and with happy ending / sad ending end in this resolution , the writer usually gives a moral value and massage based on the story

~ Language features

Ø  Focus specific and usually individualized participants

Ø  Use of materials process , behavioral , and verbal process

Ø  Use of temporal conjunctions and temporal circumstances

Ø  The text emphasizes on the presence of the time order

Ø  The text usually uses simple past tense

Ø  It uses  action verbs 

Ø  It usually found the presence of dialogue

Example of Narrative Text

EDELWEISS

      Long time ago,there was a handsome young man who wanted to climb up the Alp Mountain. The mountain was so cold and covered with thick snow. People said that a beautiful fairy lived in the mountain.

       The young man wanted to meet the fairy. He also wanted to see the beautiful palace made of ice. Many people tried to climb the mountain but all of them not succeed. Some of them gave up before they met the fairy and some others could not stand with the cold.

       This young man was different. He could climb the mountain and did not give up. He climbed and climbed for the whole week. The weather was so cold, but he kept climbing to the fairy's palace.

       He finally met the beautiful fairy and they fell in love with each other  immedietly. But,the fairy was not happy.

  "We can't live together. My father would not allow me to marry a man." said the fairy.

  "Why not ?" asked the young man.

  "Because we live in two different worlds. I can't stay in your world because it is too hot and you can't stay in my palace because it is too cold. I'm afraid you will die." explained the fairy.

         Therefore, they had to separate. Since that day, the young man promised to himself that he would not marry anyone. The beautiful fairy was so sad that she cried evey day. Every time her tears flew down on the mountain. It became a beautiful white flower called edelweiss.
